Javier Milei on the 2025 elections: "Now we are winning and achieving levels above 30%"
President Javier Milei defended today the fiscal adjustment carried out by his administration and considered that thanks to that policy, La Libertad Avanza (LLA) is "winning" the elections that took place in 2025 and "achieving levels above 30%."
"Before, we had very meager results, we had never reached 10%, but now we are winning and achieving levels above 30%," the president stated in an interview with Australian journalist, Mario Nawfal.
Milei argued that these advances mark a significant difference compared to previous provincial elections, where the ruling party had performances below two digits. According to the president's interpretation, this was partly due to the splittings that many provinces applied to separate their elections from the national ones.
"Obviously, popularity is demonstrated in the positive image I have and in the results we are achieving in different parts of the country," he emphasized.
In that context, he referred to the "fiscal adjustment" that his administration is carrying out in a "popular" way. "Our fiscal adjustment is popular because it did not fall on the private sector, but rather on politicians, corrupt businessmen, corrupt media outlets, unions, but it did not fall on the private sector that is dedicated to creating wealth," he explained.
"The reality is that I believe I was also able to do this because I said it during my campaign. I ran for office with a chainsaw and announced that I was going to cut public spending. I also said there was no money. I also indicated that my intention was to close the Central Bank," he analyzed about the population's support for his economic policy.
Regarding the legislative elections in October in the province of Buenos Aires, Milei trusts even greater consolidation of the ruling party. "When we move on to this national election, we estimate that we will have very strong numbers. This means that things can be done well, be consistent with the long term, and achieve good results in polls and elections. Saying that if one governs well they lose votes is a false dilemma," he concluded.
Her definition was produced one day after the first campaign act in the city of La Plata, where she addressed hundreds of militants and leaders of La Libertad Avanza. There she directly targeted the governor Axel Kicillof, whom she described as a "young Stalin protégé." She added: "The province has been unjustly punished by decades of neglect and now faces a terrible present."
Foreign policyIn addition to discussing internal politics, Milei also referred to his foreign policy. "Our allies in the world are the United States and Israel because they are basically the best examples of what is considered the West, Western culture," he reaffirmed.
Regarding those who accuse him of being a "Nazi," the President rejected: "There is no person more pro-Israel in the planet than my case. I am traveling to Israel to receive the Genesis award, which is the Jewish Nobel Prize. I am the first non-Jew to win the Genesis award. And Argentine journalists call me a Nazi."
Referring to the relationship with China, the president adopted a more pragmatic tone. "China has proven to be an excellent commercial partner, and in defense of the interests of Argentinians, I have deepened that relationship. In fact, before the agreement with the IMF was approved, China renewed the swap," he explained.
And he concluded: "For me, this is a job. It's not about personal preferences. What matters is what's best for the country, and the truth is that the Chinese have proven to be excellent partners."
