The participants will face routes that include sections used in the competitions of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, such as the Chinese View and Emperor's Table, in the Tijuca National Park. The event features exclusive roads, security, and comfort throughout the entire route.
The cyclists will depart from Marina da Glória and follow along the coastline of the South Zone, passing through Copacabana, Leblon, and Ipanema. The route also includes Botafogo Bay, Flamengo Esplanade, Historic Center, and Port Zone. One of the challenges will be crossing the Marcello Alencar Tunnel, located 60 meters below sea level.
Check tips for L'Étape Rio by Tour de France
— Technically, the best strategy is always to arrive well at the end. No one pedals when broken. We joke that when broken, you crawl — states Fernando Cheles, technical director and operations of L'Étape Brasil by Tour de France presented by Nubank.
The short route is 59 km with 720 meters of elevation, while the long one is 102 km, with 980 meters of elevation. The race in the capital of Rio de Janeiro covers iconic landscapes, providing a unique experience for the competitors. Knowing how to tackle each section and conserve energy is essential to reach the finish line.
— My recommendation is for cyclists to have a very relaxed start to the race, warming up as a group without exerting more effort than necessary. Starting from the 15km mark, they will enter a tough climb of 5km to 6km, through the Vista Chinesa. There will be a nice descent after that, where they can rest a bit more — Cheles advises.

The end of the course is practically flat, in the Flamengo landfill area up to the Port Zone, with expected wind. Cyclists will pass through four tunnel entrances and exits with climbs of 60 meters each, accumulating almost 250 meters in altitude.
— It's a region where the average speed is really high for those who want to be riding in a group, so my tip for those who truly want to accelerate is to have that strategy of knowing the right moment to arrive just in time — explains Fernando Cheles.
The event has a second edition in 2025.
This is the second stage of the Brazilian L'Étape calendar, which has already been held in Cunha (SP) and will have its next edition in Campos do Jordão (SP) on September 28.
The race route explores the best views of Rio de Janeiro, with the opportunity to admire Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain. Throughout the race, the event organizers and the City Hall reinforce the asphalt and ensure total safety for the athletes with closed roads.
The activities began on this Friday (27) with the opening of the Village at the Glória Marina at 12h, which will serve as a kit distribution point and will feature exhibitors and lectures. The program includes the Gregario Cycling Panel on overcoming challenges at 16h30, with Alvaro Pacheco and Rodrigo Evengelho.
On Saturday (28), the Village will be open from 9am to 8pm with panels on cycling experience featuring Leandro Bittar and Luciano Pagliarini, women's elite with Ana Lídia and Nina Boite, triathlon and cycling, science in cycling, as well as a technical briefing at 3:30pm. There will also be a panel on football and cycling with Ana Lídia and Alan Carvalho.
After the Sunday competition, there is a scheduled award ceremony at 13h.
"It's a different challenge, with hours of demand in the urban environment. The cyclist is connected with various people and technical elements of cycling, such as turning, braking, acceleration, climbing, and descending. It will be a great weekend," declared Fernando Cheles.
