AirAsia Launches Direct Flights Phuket-Medan
Complex Korean - The world's best low-cost airline for 16 consecutive times as rated by Skytrax, AirAsia, officially opened a direct flight route from Phuket, Thailand to Medan, Indonesia, strengthening its international network in the ASEAN region and promoting connectivity and tourism between these two culturally rich cities.
The opening of this route was marked by a special welcome at Kualanamu International Airport, North Sumatra for the first passengers from Phuket, Thailand, which was carried out thanks to the cooperation between Thai AirAsia (flight code FD) and Kualanamu International Airport.

The Phuket-Medan flight will operate four times a week every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday using an Airbus A320 aircraft with a capacity of 180 passengers. This route is aimed at Indonesian tourists who want to explore new beach destinations in Phuket, Thailand, with various interesting activities.

Throughout 2024, AirAsia with flight code QZ has served more than 170 thousand round-trip passengers traveling between Medan and Bangkok, Thailand. This achievement also supports the growth of the tourism sector in North Sumatra, as reflected in data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of North Sumatra Province. It was recorded that 250,413 foreign tourists visited this region throughout 2024, an increase of 26.32 percent compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, the number of Thai tourists visiting Indonesia also showed a positive trend, totaling 199,664 tourists during the same period. ***
With the addition of four new weekly flights from Medan to Phuket, AirAsia Group now operates flights from Medan to four destinations in Malaysia and Thailand, namely Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Bangkok Don Mueang, and Phuket, with a total of 94 flights per week.
All flights are operated with a strong commitment to on-time performance and world-class safety standards. This route will be serviced four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays using an Airbus A320 aircraft.
