An Jung-hwan ♥ Lee Hye-won, Co-MCs of 'Line-up Paese,' End Show: "A Time to Learn About Life and Existence"
'The Family That Crosses Lines' concluded its 89th episode, wrapping up visits to a total of 59 countries and 259 cities.
On the 89th episode of Channel A's 'Crossing the Line Family' broadcast on the 26th, MCs 4MC An Jeong-hwan, Lee Hye-won, Yoo Se-yoon, and Song Jin-woo, along with American representative Chris, French-born Fabien, and British-born Peter, sat in the studio. Meanwhile, the Crossing the Line Family members from Vietnam, the United States, and the UK revealed unique travel destinations and experiences popular among locals in their respective countries, piquing interest. Additionally, after approximately two years of vicariously experiencing the lives of international families in 114 teams, 'Crossing the Line Family' announced its final broadcast that day, bidding heartfelt goodbyes to viewers and the 'Crossing the Line' members from various countries.
First, Hyeon-gi Lee and Lily, a 'Vietnamese family' residing in Ho Chi Minh City, greeted each other after a long time. Then, they said, "I will go on vacation to a resort that is popular among people in Ho Chi Minh City," and set off on their journey. After driving for 2 hours by bus, they arrived at their destination, 'Binh Thuan,' which is a weekend travel spot for Vietnamese people and has emerged as a 'budget-friendly resort.' Upon reaching the beach, which stretches over 10 kilometers, they were attracted by the numerous parasols prepared for day-trippers. However, they said, "We don't need parasols because we have booked a hotel," and checked into a '5-star' hotel. The price of this hotel, which features European-style interiors, spacious rooms, and a huge outdoor pool, including breakfast, was about '140,000 won' per night, causing shock.
The 'Vietnamese Family' who came out of the hotel had traditional Phan Thiet dishes such as Banh Khot and Banh Seo, along with drinks, for about 10,000 won at a local restaurant. Afterward, the 'Vietnamese Family' enjoyed some healing time at a popular seaside cafe on SNS, where the price for two drinks and even a chocolate stick came to about 9,900 won, which was cheaper than in Ho Chi Minh City. Next, they visited the landmark 'Jesus Statue' in Phan Thiet, the former residence of the French Governor-General 'Bach Dinh', and the Nillavana Temple which houses a 12-meter-long Buddha statue one after another. Then, they received a foot massage, which is an essential part of a Vietnam trip, for about 16,000 won per person. For dinner, they enjoyed fresh seafood at a famous seafood restaurant in Phan Thiet, including grilled tiger prawns, seafood tofu stir-fry, and seafood fried noodles. Contrary to the predictions of the show's cast, which estimated a minimum cost of 40,000 to 50,000 won, the final bill came to about 36,000 won. The total travel expenses for the 'Vietnamese Family' for a 1-night 2-day trip in Phan Thiet, based on a 2-person standard, amounted to approximately 250,000 won. All the show's participants gave a thumbs up, saying, "This is the best value for money among the places we've seen on our trip!"
The 'American Family' entered the mart and confirmed that the grocery prices in Seoul were similar to those in New York. However, they all agreed that "it's not possible to cook every day during a trip to New York." Then, saying "there's a must-try food when you come to New York," they headed to a New York steakhouse. Enjoying a 'porterhouse' steak with mushrooms and spinach garnish at a restaurant with a 140-year history, the total cost including tips came to about 320,000 won, which left everyone speechless. For the 'leisure expenses' check, buying tickets to the Empire State Building's observation deck resulted in a cost of about 110,000 won per person. After admiring the magnificent skyscrapers from the observation deck, the 'American Family' concluded that "when budgeting for a month-long stay in New York with accommodation costs of 13 million won, transportation costs of 200,000 won, food expenses of 4.5 to 5 million won, and leisure expenses of 1 to 1.5 million won, the total cost for a month in New York is expected to be around 1.5 to 2 billion won."
The last 'British Family' to appear, Hwang Yoo-jin and George, have been diligently taking care of their daughter Arri, who was born last year, and complained about sudden exhaustion from the effort. They took a trip to 'Isle of Wight,' George's hometown where his in-laws reside, for the weekend. About 120km away from London, Isle of Wight is a representative healing destination that was voted as the top city where Britons want to retire. The 'British Family,' meeting with the in-laws, enjoyed a fairy-tale-like feeling by visiting the old town 'Shanklin Village,' where British-style cottages gather, as their first course. Afterward, they enjoyed 'afternoon tea' at the British-style cafe 'Tea Room,' which has been renovated into a modern style, and then strolled along the beach, admiring the impressive vertical striped sand cliffs of 'Alum Bay.'
After 'British Family' arrived at the house where the parents-in-law live, the mother-in-law said, "I'll make a special Sunday meal called 'Sunday Roast.'" She prepared roast beef, roasted vegetables, Yorkshire pudding, and gravy sauce. They enjoyed the quintessential British dish, 'Sunday Roast,' with their family, finding special healing in this moment from the daily grind of childcare that had been exhausting them.
On the other hand, 'Beyond the Line Family', which began broadcasting in 2023, concluded its journey after traveling to 59 countries and 259 cities around the world. An Jung-hwan said, "I sincerely thank the 114 teams of 'Beyond the Line' who introduced us to various cultures. It was a happy time to learn about life and existence while watching you all." Lee Hye-won also said, "We know there were many difficult things in living abroad," and encouraged everyone saying, "Keep fighting till the end!" with heartfelt support for all the 'Beyond the Line' families around the world.
