The "GIGA School Initiative," which started in 2019, has seen the gradual replacement of learning devices introduced for students. Alongside the peak replacement period expected in fiscal years 2025 to 2026, efforts are also advancing to improve ICT environments for school staff from the perspective of promoting "Educational Administration DX (Digital Transformation)." As a result, PC and peripheral device manufacturers are actively participating in educational exhibitions to showcase their strengths.

From June 5th to 7th, many PC and peripheral manufacturers exhibited at the "NEW EDUCATION EXPO 2025" held at TFT Building (Koto City, Tokyo), so in this article, I would like to introduce the PC-related booths.

●ASUS JAPAN: Displayed teacher devices and learning devices for GIGA 2.0

At the ASUS JAPAN booth, various notebook PCs were on display, ranging from high-performance teacher's devices to student devices for the second phase of the GIGA School Initiative (GIGA 2.0 / Next GIGA).

The "ASUS ExpertBook P5," intended for use as a teacher's device, is a Copilot+ PC equipped with a 14-inch display and a Core Ultra 200V processor. The "ASUS BR1204F" is a convertible 2-in-1 notebook designed for use as a Next GIGA learning device, featuring a 12.2-inch display and an Intel N100/N150 processor.

The "ASUS Chromebook CM30 Detachable" is a detachable Chromebook featuring a 10.5-inch display and the MediaTek Kompanio 520. The "ASUS Chromebook CZ12 Flip" is a convertible Chromebook equipped with a 12.2-inch display and the Kompanio 520. Both models are designed with adoption in mind for use as learning devices under Japan's Next GIGA initiative, and utilize the Kompanio 520 SoC to keep costs low.

● Dynabook: Exhibited learning devices with slip-resistant features

At the Dynabook booth, learning devices for Next GIGA, "dynabook K70" and "Dynabook Chromebook C70," were on display.

Both models were developed based on feedback from teachers regarding devices being slippery and easily dropping off desks, causing damage to the device bodies. Compared to other manufacturers' products, these models are more compact, saving space when placed on elementary school desks, which are often narrow, thereby reducing the likelihood of accidental drops.

The outer edge of the tabletop is made of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), which is both slip-resistant and impact-resistant, making it an advantage that the table does not easily slide off even when tilted to some extent.

●Fujitsu: Exhibiting lightweight mobile notebook PCs and learning devices for Next GIGA

Most of the exhibitors at the NEW EDUCATION EXPO 2025 also participated in the previously held "EDIX Tokyo 2025." In contrast, Fujitsu is exhibiting only at this event.

This exhibition featured mobile notebook PCs as school administration products, such as the "LIFEBOOK U9313/R," which weighs approximately 730g in its lightest configuration. Additionally, on display were cost-effective notebook PCs for school administrative use and a convertible 2-in-1 PC with an 11.6-inch display, the "LIFEBOOK U3114X/SEG," intended for adoption as a learning device.

The LIFEBOOK U3114X/SEG is characterized by enhanced durability, such as increasing the thickness of the display glass by 25 percent compared to older models to prevent touch panel glass cracks, and adopting keytops that are less likely to come off.

● Japan HP: A wide variety of PCs and printers/video bars on display

At the Japan HP booth, various products were on display, including notebook PCs and all-in-one desktop PCs for school administrative use, ultra-small workstations, printer products which the company excels at, as well as Poly brand video bars and headsets.

The 16-inch mobile workstation "HP ZBook Power 16 G11 Mobile Workstation" is equipped with a Core Ultra processor (Series 1), and configurations featuring the "NVIDIA RTX 3000 Ada" as an external GPU are also available.

The "HP ZBook Firefly 14-inch G11 Mobile Workstation" model also features the Core Ultra processor (Series 1), and offers configurations equipped with the "NVIDIA RTX 500 Ada" as a dedicated GPU. Despite including a discrete GPU, its lightweight design of approximately 1.5 kg is a notable feature.

The "HP Z2 Mini G9 Workstation" is an ultra-small desktop workstation that can also be mounted to the back of a display using an optional "Monitor Mount Kit."

The "HP Z2 SFF G9 Workstation," with its standard compact form factor, is a space-saving workstation, and models equipped with the "NVIDIA RTX A2000" are also available.

Another notable aspect was the large number of non-PC products on display, such as Poly brand video bars and headsets, and business-oriented A3 inkjet printers like the "HP OfficeJet Pro 9730."

● Lenovo Japan: Widely exhibits school administrative terminals and Next GIGA learning devices

Lenovo Japan exhibited high-performance notebook PCs and workstations for school administrative use, as well as learning devices compliant with Next GIGA.

The 15.3-inch "ThinkPad X9 15 Gen 1 Aura Edition" and the 14-inch "ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition," both displayed as school-use PCs, are Copilot+ PCs equipped with Core Ultra 200V processors. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition is highlighted for its lightweight body under 1 kg.

The 11.6-inch "Lenovo 300w 2-in-1 Gen 5" and "Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 4" displayed as learning devices will both be Windows-based. The 11.6-inch "Lenovo 500e Chromebook Gen 4s" is a Chromebook.

Desktop workstations were also exhibited as terminals for research and development at colleges of technology (KOSEN) and universities. The "ThinkStation P3 Tiny" is an ultra-compact workstation with a volume of only 1 liter, and can be equipped with an external GPU, the "NVIDIA RTX A400."

The "ThinkStation P2" is a model that emphasizes cost-performance and can be utilized for various purposes.

● Mouse Computer: Exhibiting not only PCs but also "displays for teachers and staff"

At the Mouse Computer booth, there were displays of notebook PCs aimed at school administrative tasks and high school/vocational college students, liquid crystal displays targeting a "one display per staff member" initiative for teachers, and Chromebooks designed for Next GIGA.

The "DAIV R4" of type 14 is a creator-oriented notebook PC equipped with a Core i7-13620H processor and a GeForce RTX 4050 Laptop GPU. The "DAIV Z6," a 16-type model, is a high-performance notebook PC for creators featuring a choice of Core i7-13700H or Core i9-13900H processors and either a GeForce RTX 4060 or 4070 Laptop GPU. It seems they exhibited these models due to the increasing demand for high-performance PCs in schools for photo and video editing purposes.

"DAIV FX" is a tower-style desktop PC designed for creators. It offers various options for the CPU and graphics card, including the ability to equip NVIDIA's flagship model "GeForce RTX 5090" as the graphics card.

For the next GIGA, they exhibited a learning device "mouse Chromebook U1-DAU01GY-A" and a Windows-based "MousePro T1-DAU01BK-A." Both models feature an 11.6-inch display.

The 14-inch notebook PC "MousePro G4-I57U01BK-D," displayed as a school-use PC or for college and university students, weighs approximately 969g in its lightest configuration, making it highly portable. It can also be equipped with LTE communication functionality through BTO (customization).

The 15.6-inch notebook PC "MousePro L5-I5U01WT-A" features a built-in DVD Super Multi drive, which has become relatively rare these days. This seems to address the needs of educational institutions, where there are still numerous opportunities to use optical media.

Mouse Computer also manufactures liquid crystal displays under the "iiyama" brand. Because of this, liquid crystal displays were also exhibited, aiming for adoption in the "one business-use display per person" initiative outlined in the "Three-Year Plan for ICT Environment Development in Schools," which was announced alongside Next GIGA.

●VAIO: Exhibiting business-oriented notebook PCs and ultra-lightweight mobile displays

Although VAIO did not exhibit at EDIX Tokyo 2025, it did participate in the NEW EDUCATION EXPO 2025. The exhibition was primarily targeted toward school staff, focusing mainly on the company's business-oriented notebook PCs, the "VAIO Pro series," and the world's lightest mobile display for its 14-inch size, the "VAIO Vision+ 14P."

The VAIO Pro offers a lightweight model in 13.3/14-inch sizes, and when combined with the VAIO Vision+ 14P, it claims to "achieve a high level of both portability and convenience."
