If you enjoy walking, you won't hesitate to walk along the Hyeongseong Lake during your Hyeongseong trip. Some people even enjoy walking barefoot on certain sections. Now, I'll introduce a trail where you can walk comfortably without any difficult sections.

횡성호(橫城湖)는 횡성댐이 생기면서 자연스럽게 만들어진 인공 호수다.
The Hongseong Dam, which has a central core wall type rockfill structure with a height of 48.5m, length of 205m, and reservoir capacity of 87 million tons, was announced in 1990, began construction in December 1993, and was completed in October 2000. It serves the functions of water supply, power generation, and flood control.
After parking, I look around at the Three-story Stone Pagoda of medium iron among the tangible cultural properties of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, the 'Wings of Hope' memorial sculpture in the submerged area known as 'Mountainsickness Hill,' and then head towards the ticket booth entrance.
The entrance fee for the Hoengseong Lake Trail is 2,000 won per person, but it can be offset with a Hoengseong Military Tourism Product Coupon worth 2,000 won, making it essentially free entry.
This tourism product voucher can be used like cash at participating points in Hwacheon-gun, so you can use it when having coffee or dining.
The term "Hwaseong Dulle-gil" commonly refers to a total of 6 sections that allow you to walk around Hwaseong Lake.
Therefore, we can simply refer to Ganghwaho's 'Ganghwa Lake Road' and 'Ganghwa Circumferential Road' casually without distinguishing between them.
Among the 6 trails, the most well-known trail is the Hwacheonho Lake Trail Section 5 Family Trail. The Family Trail consists of Course A and Course B, each 4.5km long, making the total distance about 9km which takes approximately 3 hours to complete.
That's why in many cases, most people first walk the A course which is about 4.5km and takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
The first half of the 5th section, the Family Trail, is very flat and well-maintained, so many people walk barefoot. In the latter part, there are slight ascents and descents, and it passes through forest paths, making it less suitable for barefoot walking.
If you want to try barefoot walking, I recommend walking to a place where you can walk barefoot and then returning back.
It's the rainy season as I'm writing this.
But when Kunni visited, it was just before the monsoon, so the water in Hyeongseong Lake had receded significantly.
I've already drained some water in preparation for the rainy season when it might overflow.
The reason I strongly recommend the Hyeongsong Lake Road to those traveling in Hyeongsong is because it is beautiful.
In particular, the 5th section Family Route does not require seeing the entire lake, and can complete the A course in about 1 hour and 30 minutes, so there is no psychological burden regarding walking. Additionally, there are plenty of resting areas, chairs, and the like where you can take a break whenever you feel tired.
The originally called Hwaseong Dulle-gil is a trail that offers views of the entire Hwaseong Lake, consisting of 6 sections. Among them, Section 5, the Family Trail, protrudes inward into the lake and does not connect with other trails, requiring an out-and-back route. This is why it requires a separate entrance fee. The other sections can be visited without any additional entrance fees.
This place is now the 'Lake Gallery.'
The exhibition displays various photos from different periods set against the backdrop of Hoengseong Lake, which would be worth seeing.
In the Gallery Shelter, one can sit down for a moment to rest and, if they happen to have brought some tea, it's also a place where they can have a sip before leaving.

The Hwacheon Dam section of the Hwaseong Dolle-gil Trail is about 3 km long and takes approximately 1 hour to complete.
The second section is a ridge trail with a total distance of about 4km. There are ups and downs, so I expect it will take about 2 hours.
The third section is called the Healing Trail and is approximately 1.5km long.
The fourth section is called the Path of Four Colors and is approximately 7 km.
Section 5 is the Family Route 9km
Section 6 is the Memory Lane, 7km long.
This is where the Hwaseong Dulle-gil Trail Section 5, Course A and Course B meet.
If you don't plan to walk a total of 9km including the B course, you should enter in the direction of the A course.
And at this intersection, there is a distinctive smell that permeates - it's the bathroom. While it is a very important space for those who need to use it urgently, in most cases, the smell of the bathroom slightly furrows one's brow.
If you truly enjoy walking and can handle sweating it out on long-distance trails, I would recommend challenging yourself to the entire 22.5km of the remaining 5 sections excluding section 5. This would be the true Hwacheon Round Trail, offering a complete view of the Hwacheon Lake.
It takes about 9 hours to walk the total distance of 22.5km, but depending on the speed of walking, it can usually be expected to take around 8 to 10 hours. If we include the 5th section which is the family trail, it would take roughly 12 hours in total.
Personally, I would recommend not only trying it all at once, but also breaking it up and doing it intermittently.
For example, starting from section 6, it involves walking a total of 14km from section 1 to section 2, and dividing it into courses such as walking 8.5km from section 4 to section 3. However, this method results in different starting and ending points, which means someone needs to provide a pickup, thus creating a disadvantage.
The Hwaseonggil in Hwaseong is a beautiful path that deserves to be recommended for any form of travel to Hwaseong.
The length of the walk may vary depending on one's condition and the surrounding circumstances, but the 5th section Family Trail will be a happy path that anyone, regardless of gender or age, can enjoy without strain.
This place is Echo Picnic Ground, and rather than being remarkable for some great installation, it has a spacious deck installed, making it a comfortable spot to spread out a picnic mat and relax.
This place is a bit wider than other viewpoints and has a pretty photo zone installed. Since I came to Hongcheon for a trip, let's take a commemorative photo!
It would be nice to sit at a shaded table and take a moment to relax.
This is a forest therapy site. Lie down on the relax chair placed in the coniferous forest within the shade of the woods and close your eyes for a moment.
I might fall asleep soon.
The path from here on has many shadows and slight ups and downs through the forest. There isn't much difficulty, but those who are weak or elderly can walk at their own pace; it's not a very long stretch and there's a lookout point jutting out in the middle where you can rest.
That's where you exit after walking through the entire forest path.
This is how we ended up walking all sections of the Hyeongseongho Lake Trail 5, the family route, during our trip to Hyeongseong. From here, it takes about 300 meters of walking to reach the parking lot.
Having completed the family route A course walk,
The travel destinations in Hwacheon, there are many places you can think of, but Kunni personally recommends this Hwacheon Lake Road first. I strongly recommend walking here. The most beloved seasons are spring, autumn, and winter. In summer, it would be good to visit avoiding the rainy season.
